What is Tarot?

The cards never lie…

I personally like to think of tarot as an occult and mystical card game that I use to connect with the Universe as well as my own subconscious. Tarot is a tool that helps put issues, situations and challenges into perspective and to gain inspiration for moving forward. Tarot can be used for many things. For self growth and introspection. For the creative process. For career consultation. For clarity, decision making and confirmation. To help people evolve as a spiritual beings. I use tarot to help my clients with everything from broken hearts to spiritual awakenings, and from everyday shenanigans to life or death issues.

One word of advice for the seeker is to always approach a tarot reading with openness and trust in your heart. You don’t need to know all about tarot to be able to trust the process and be open to what messages you might be receiving.

Also be aware that every tarot reader is different and will put their personal experiences, beliefs and personality into the reading. So every reading will be unique.

I asked my tarot community:

“What do you tell people when they ask you about tarot ?”

“We're ALL spiritual beings but we just lose that prominent part of ourselves to this world. Tarot helps me maintain that connection with my spiritual core by reminding me of the unseen wonders every single day. It helps me see the impossible, the magical, the extraordinary. Would you like to see for yourself?”

— Anastashia Khalid, Pakistan - @TarotwithAna

“It's like a book of all human experiences and you can reshuffle it into any combination to tell any story to then reflect on. This works well for the skeptics. I also once told a woman the message in the cards would make sense to her but not to me because shy”

— Carolyn, Canada - @Fool’sGoldTarot

“That there are a lot of misconceptions about tarot and that it’s not necessarily this mystical/magical thing, but rather that it’s often used as a therapeutic tool for self help/growth. And then I explain that it’s basically just like a mirror - a series of archetypal images that resonate with us in a visceral way, reflecting our inner world, and thus enabling us to garner insight, clarity, and guidance”

— Tracy, USA - @Owl&BoneTarot

“A type of art therapy”

— Julia Cox, USA - @Owl_and_Willow

“A good way to look at things fresh and can help you think about things you haven’t really wanted to venture into”

— Bronwyn, USA/Denmark - @TarotOutlaw

“Tarot helps translate the messages and guidance being offered to you from the Universe by reflecting in pictures and themes your own inner knowing…”

— Jahna, USA - @TwinMoonTarot

“Tarot is fun, it’s good as a self assessment tool, works your creative and intuitive muscles and it’s not evil…”

— Sara, USA - @in80sblues.tarot

“A way to challenge myself to look at things from a new perspective. And that it's a self-care practice for me, like journaling or meditation”

—“Pocky”, USA - @PocketKnifeTarot

“A creative problem solving tool!”

— Tara, USA - @Readings_and_Rituals

“If someone is genuinely and sincerely curious, I tell them that it's a way of seeking intuitive guidance; connecting with myself on a deeper level. And if someone is preaching about the evils of practicing this and how my soul is damned, I tell them it's a way to summon demons”

— Martha, Canada - @MysticalEmpowerment

“A tool for introspection and thinking through decisions…”

— Samantha Gordon, USA - @Type-A Tarot

“A snapshot of your life!”

— Minny, The World - @HealingwithCynnamon

“A way to receive messages from the Universe as well as your own subconscious. An occult card game. A collection of human stories and experiences. An artsy tool for self growth. A way to connect with your higher self”
